Course objectives:
One PADI scuba certification available: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.
Eight hours of service learning through projects dedicated to data collection and maintenance projects.
Requirements:
The adventure begins as you travel from Los Angeles to Fiji, crossing the International Date Line with the rest of your group. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your instructors and settle into your new tropical home. After a welcome dinner, dive into shark studies with lessons on the Shark Marine Reserve and a first dive among Fiji’s colorful coral reefs.
Now you’ve got into the groove of life on the island, begin working on your PADI Advanced Open Water Certification with daily dives and marine biology lessons. Get a taste of Fijian culture by enjoying local activities like coconut weaving and paddleboarding. Finally, we’ll make our first move, transferring to Pacific Harbour, and preparing for our first shark dive!
Experience the thrill of diving with sharks at Pacific Harbour! Learn about different shark species firsthand and gain insights into shark conservation efforts. Between dives, take a break from the water to explore the lush rainforest trails of Colo-I-Suva Forest Park, where you’ll discover cascading waterfalls and serene natural pools. In Suva, dive into Fijian history and culture with visits to local landmarks. Wrap up Day 12 with your midterm exam and celebrate afterward with your group as you prepare for the next phase of your journey.
As you continue your shark dives, you’ll start to identify individual sharks by name. Prepare for your final research projects, taking a break to spend a day giving back through a community service project with local schools. Enjoy more coral dives and collect shark teeth as souvenirs… and data for your research project!
Relocate to the Coral Coast, your home base for the remainder of the trip. Here, you’ll dive into new experiences, exploring the Sigatoka Sand Dunes, kayaking along crystal-clear waters, and engaging with Fijian culture through coconut weaving and traditional storytelling.
Present your species projects and finalize your research, showcasing your hard work and new knowledge. Celebrate your achievements with a rafting adventure on the stunning Upper Navua River. Reflect on the journey, share final moments with your group, and pack up for the journey home, leaving Fiji with unforgettable memories and a deeper connection to its incredible marine life and culture
